Prayer for our Nation

On September 7, 2008 Gabe used Acts 4:23-31 to suggest a prayer for the Church faced with the difficulties of the world, to include persecution, and/or stagnation in preaching the word. This prayer is as follows.

“Lord, consider the threats of the world around us, the world that crucified your Son and does not know the power of His Name.
Enable us, your servants, to speak your Word with great boldness.
Stretch out your hand to heal and perform wonders through the name of Jesus.
Fill us with your Holy Spirit, Lord, and through us, may the world see you are the Almighty God in whom we can take refuge.
We ask your will to be done in the name of Jesus, Amen”.

What Happens in Heaven- Acknowledge God's Blessings

I dreamt that I went to Heaven and an angel was showing me around. We walked side-by-side inside a large workroom filled with angels. My angel guide stopped in front of the first section and said, 'This is the Receiving Section. Here, all petitions to God said in prayer are received.'
I looked around in this area, and it was terribly busy with so many angels sorting out petitions written on voluminous paper sheets and scraps from people all over the world.
Then we moved on down a long corridor until we reached the second section.
The angel then said to me, 'This is the Packaging and Delivery Section. Here, the graces and blessings the people asked for are processed and delivered to the living persons who asked for them.' I noticed again how busy it was there. There were many angels working hard at that station, since so many blessings had been requested and were being packaged for delivery to Earth.
Finally at the farthest end of the long corridor we stopped at the door of a very small station. To my great surprise, only one angel was seated there, idly doing nothing. 'This is the Acknowledgment Section,' my angel friend quietly admitted to me. He seemed embarrassed 'How is it that there is no work going on here?' I asked.
'So sad,' the angel sighed. 'After people receive the blessings that they asked for, very few send back acknowledgments .'
'How does one acknowledge God's blessings?' I asked.
'Simple,' the angel answered. Just say, 'Thank you, Lord.'
'What blessings should they acknowledge?' I asked.

-'If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep you are richer than 75% of this world. If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy .'


-'And if you get this on your own computer, you are part of the 1% in the world who has that opportunity.'


-'If you woke up this morning with more health than illness ... you are more blessed than the many who will not even survive this day .'


-'If you have never experienced the fear in battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation ... you are ahead of 700 million people in the world.'


-'If you can attend a church without the fear of harassment, arrest, torture or death you are envied by, and more blessed than, three billion people in the world '


-'If your parents are still alive and still married ....you are very rare .'


-'If you can hold your head up and smile, you are not the norm, you're unique to all those in doubt and despair.'

Hope for Christians

Given the results of the elections and that many Americans are turning away from God, it would seem that there is much to despair of. In times like these it is helpful to read Phillipians 4:4-9 and act on it.

4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Christians should vote their conscience

The Catholic Church has done a good job of capturing in a video what the upcoming election is all about. It is not about the economy, how much house you can afford, or how many cars you can drive. It is about the spiritual well being of you, your family, and the country. The country has been under assault by those who care only about the physical or material world. War on God in America

Gabe spoke about the Capitol Visitor's Center (CVC) opening and the deletion of any mention of God or religion from the CVC. This not only dishonors God but it is a misrepresentation of our history. See the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Fls6yfx7fs
If Christians want to turn back the tide of politically correct, but historically incorrect, secularism, we must act. Write or call your congressman. You can compose your own letter or send the copy/paste the one below.


It has come to my attention that the Congressional Visitor's Center, scheduled to open soon, leaves out any mention of God or religion. This not only offends the majority of Americans (who are Christian) but is historically inaccurate. Our great nation was built on Judeo-Christian ideals and morals. I urge you to delay the opening of the CVC until it accurately depicts the role that God and religion has played in the founding of our nation.

Christians and political activity

Too often, Christians take a somewhat passive role in politics. Other times, Christians can seem almost militant in their actions. What is the correct role of Christians in politics? Should we actively support our candidates, even from the pulpit?

Studying scripture

As part of Keith's sermon he provided an excellent tool for studying, understanding and applying Scripture. It is something that Grace came up with and uses the acronym SPECK. While reading scripture:
S- is there a Sin in this scripture that I should confess?
P- is there a Promise to claim?

E- Is there an Example for me to follow? Is there Error to avoid?

C- Are there Commands to obey?
K- is there Knowledge about God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit I should know?
Using the SPECK technique allows us to slow down and really try to fully understand what the scripture means. Rather that trying to read lots of verses or books, read a few at a time and apply SPECK. Also, Keith recommends reading aloud to yourself as another way of absorbing the lesson of the scripture you are reading.
